Most of us know that cardio is important for getting fit and losing weight, but what you may not know is how important weight training is when it comes to getting lean and burning fat.

One weight training session doesn’t always burn as many calories after one workout as cardio. However, if you really want to change your body and make a difference, you need to lift weights.

Lifting develops strong bones. By stressing your bones, strength training can increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. We want you to age gracefully. Weight training can improve your skin, hormonal profile, and mental clarity. In our programs, we incorporate exercises to increase your balance and mobility. If you knew that a certain type of exercise could benefit your heart, help keep away chronic disease, improve your body function and reduce back pain, wouldn’t you want to get started?

At the Pembroke Fitness Centre our certified staff will design a program to improve your posture, gain bone density, maintain weight loss, boost your metabolism and help you reach your fitness goals. Your bones need to stay challenged, just like your brain needs to exercise to stay sharp. After age 30, if you’re not strength training you start to lose bone density at a small percent each year. Resistance training creates force on the bone and helps it stay strong. Weight training improves heart health by producing a different pattern of blood vessel responses than other aerobic activity such as walking or running. Strong healthy back muscles are very important. Muscles in your back help keep your spine moving. If your back is weak or you have weak abdominal muscles, you could be more prone to back strain. Our certified personal trainers can teach you simple, specific weight lifting and strengthening exercises to maintain good back health or reduce pain.

By combining our fitness centre’s strength in personal training with a modern weight room we believe you’ll find a perfect balance of exercising at the Pembroke Fitness Centre. Whether you’ve got your routine all figured out or need help developing one, everything you’ll ever need will be right here.

All our weight and cardio equipment is designed for fitness members from the beginner to advanced. The advantage you have is to first talk to a knowledgeable personal trainer for help designing a program for your individual needs.

So much more than a gym! I'm a very big guy, and I have never felt the least bit uncomfortable there. Everyone is welcoming and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There are weights, cardio machines, all kinds of classes, and membership also gives you access to the saunas and the hotel pool and hottub. Safety protocols are strictly enforced, the prices are very reasonable and the trainers are fantastic!

the pool is warm and full of natural light and plants. lots of space to be covid safe.
